Ten Books with “Sun” or “Star” in the title

I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in a while, but I thought I’d try and do some low-effort versions this month since I’m super busy with my thesis but still want to be able to post here.

This week’s prompt is Book Titles That Include the Word “[insert word of your choice here]” and I thought I would pick the word “sun”.

Although I’m not a fan of the heat, I love sunlight. Sun streaming through the windows and lighting up the room, sunset, sunrise – all of it. However, it turns out I have fewer books on my shelves with the word “sun” in the title than I thought and this is a low-effort post so I didn’t want to search for other books I might be interested in as well.

Then I remembered… “sun” is just the name of a specific star! And I love stars too. So even though “sun” and “star” is technically two words… they’re almost the same thing!

The Sun and Her Flowers and I’ll Give You the Sun were two of my favourite books in sixth form and secondary school respectively, so I’m really happy they are on this list! I’ve read The Brightest Light of Sunshine as well, and I just remember it being a fun romance but nothing that particularly stuck with me.

Thirteen Months of Sunrise and She Who Became the Sun are both on my TBR.

The Starless Sea is one of my favourite books in terms of prose, even though I’d be hard-pressed to tell you what the story was (very much vibes > plot). Under Fortunate Stars was one of the first space opera types books I read about 4 years ago and then I was hooked – I really need to go back and reread it though, since I don’t remember it well.

The Stardust Grail, The Last Stargazers, and The Map of Salt and Stars are all still on my TBR.

Have you read any of these books?

What are your favourite books with the word “sun” or “star” in the title?

A quick search of my blog shows I haven’t reviewed anything with Sun in the title which is a surprise.

    Thanks for sharing your #TTT

It’s not nearly as common a title word as I expected!

Sun is a popular pick today! I guess a lot of people are thinking about the heat 🫣 I still need to read I’ll Give You the Sun. Started it a few years ago and then ran into a slump and didn’t continue. Will have to pick it up again soon! Same goes for She Who Became the Sun. Great picks 🙂

I wasn’t thinking about temperature at all (it’s currently like… 13 degrees or something in Scotland) – although looking at the weather forecast we’re getting 26 on Friday which is genuinely scorching for up here.

I just really love the sun (and stars). At one point my friends joked that my personal insta was a fan page for the sun because I basically only posted photos of sunrise/sunset lol.

I hope it goes better for you a second time through! It was one of my favourite books as a teenager and still one I recommend today although it’s been over a decade since I read it, probably.

I lived for four months in an apartment with 0 sunlight (the only window opened onto a covered pathway between two buildings AND had the air conditioning unit in it). Never again. I used to not go home until after dark otherwise it felt too depressing.

Ahh, excellent choice for this prompt. I really need to get to The Stardust Grail… I’ve been meaning to try that one for a while.

Thank you! It’s one of the few books I bought last year and still haven’t gotten around to reading, but it looks so interesting!

I really enjoyed it, although I remember needing to listen to the audiobook to get into it at first (the narrator has a gorgeous voice) and then switching to the physical book part way through when I was more invested and wanted to read it more quickly.

I love the sun too, but I think I enjoy spring sun better than the summer sun. I really enjoyed She Who Became the Sun, but haven’t had a chance to pick up the sequel. I don’t mind a book being more about vibes than plot. Going to need to finally read The Starless Sea. The first title with sun that comes to minds is A Sunny Place for Shady People by Mariana Enriquez. Such a great short story collection.

Most places in the world I 100% agree with you. But I just love how long the days are in June in Scotland (plus it’s not so awfully hot). Although I also like how I actually get to see the sunset and rise more often during the shorter winter days.

I’ve had She Who became the Sun on my TBR for years – I really need to get to it.

The vibes are definitely immaculate! I hope you enjoy it. I’ll have to look up that collection!

Absolutely valid approach to the topic! 😀

And I know what you mean about The Starless Sea – I remember liking it a lot, but couldn’t tell you a thing about the plot now!

Same! I have a hard time with the heat, which is ironic since I live in the Arizona desert. Like you, though, I do love sunsets/sunrises/sunlight/sunbeams. Great list!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

I also really struggle with the heat, especially in the UK – I deal with it much better in other countries, for some reason, I think our heat is just… the worst possible combination of all heat-causing factors. Luckily it doesn’t happen to often.

    I haven’t read these.
The last one I read with SUN is this Japanese classic: https://wordsandpeace.com/2024/02/24/book-review-the-setting-sun/

I haven’t read it yet, but I think of these ones Thirteen Months of Sunrise sounds the most like something you would read.
I haven’t heard of that classic before – very interesting!
