June Book Haul | Fantasy Romance and Danmei

My last book haul for the first half of the year and it’s relatively short!
You can also check out my reading wrap and book haul for the first six months of the year here.

I’m linking this up to the Stacking the Shelves meme hosted by Marlene @Reading Reality, which allows us to share the books we’ve acquired (either bought, gifted or borrowed) each week – even though I don’t post each week, I enjoy being able to see what other people are excited about. Please see my first post for a discussion of why I don’t participate weekly/my concerns about book hauls and over consumerism.

I have included links to purchase the books without supporting Amazon! If you’re based in the UK, please use the Bookshop.org UK affiliate links and support independent bookshops (where not available on Bookshop.org, I have included an alternative independent bookshop you can buy from directly). If you’re international, Blackwell’s ship all over the world and the cost of delivery is included in the listed price, so no nasty surprises. And of course, you can always request a book from your local library instead!

Granted a second change, Prince Cheng wakes up the morning after his wedding and vows to do better by Mu Hanzhang, putting him before his political ambitions or himself.

Every time I see you mention it I’m reminded how tempted I am by Golden Terrace, hahaha.

Hahaha, maybe it’s a sign! Especially since it’s on the short end for danmei (2 volumes, I think?)

The Wife Comes First sounds like such an interesting story. Plus, that cover! ❤ ❤ ❤

Altho, I am a bit confused…. does he marry a woman and Hanzhang is still just a consort that he treasures, or does he marry Hanzhang? The wording and the title are confusing me. I might just grab the book to find out myself, but I’m really interested to see your thoughts on it.

He marries Hanzhang! Hanzhang is considered his “wife” (basically, if you marry a woman or a man in this universe it doesn’t matter, the one who marries ‘in’ is the ‘wife’ and is not allowed to do things like take the exam to be a government official etc.). So when he’s talking about his “wife” he means the prince-consort Hanzhang.

It was a fun, very quick read and I think I’ll continue it just for that, although I was mostly only interested in the relationship between the two main characters and the rest of the plot was just okay. I gave it 3 stars but I also finished it in 2 sittings. If you’re interested by the premise, I would definitely check it out. I also really enjoy ‘reincarnation in my own body so I can fix all my mistakes’ stories, so that made it extra fun for me.

This post is definitely a reminder that I should try some Danmei out sometime. I’m pretty sure I actually have a couple on my TBR which I added before I saw the term explained in your previous post. My last purchase was The Unicorn Hunters but it seems to have gotten lost and I don’t know what’s happening about it 🙈

Off the top of my head the Scum Villain and White Cat series. I may have others too but I don’t have a specific list for them so unless they jump out at me they’d be lost in my TBR somewhere 🙈

        Thank you.

Scum Villain is fun 0 – it was the first full series I read (I read 1-3, didn’t read 4 as it’s just bonus scenes and I didn’t like it THAT much), although I’m more interested in Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s other series.

Looking them up I may have others by them on my TBR too as there are definitely a few familiar titles. Hope you enjoy them whenever you get to those ones.

Something like 90% of English-language danmei if not more is published by Seven Seas Entertainment if that makes it easier for you to find them xD

Where would you recommend me starting with Ilona Andrews? I love that it is a husband/wife duo of writers.

It really depends on the kind of books you like and how much of a commitment you want to make! I’m going to shamelessly self-promote a post that I made back in May as an introduction to the world of Ilona Andrews that can hopefully help you figure out where the best starting point would be for you: https://keirasbookmark.com/2026/05/04/a-beginners-guide-to-the-world-of-ilona-andrews/

Love to see so many danmei in this haul! I’m super excited to get my hands on Stars of Chaos, as I loved Guardian and need to read more books by priest 🥰 I’ve also just added The Wife Comes First to my TBR, as I unexpectedly adored the author’s other book – The White Cat’s Divine Scratching Post 😊
