The second month of the year has arrived! I’m actually feeling somewhat positive about my chances of completing my TBR this year.
Funnily, although this is the month of love (and I do have a couple of thematic blog posts in the works), none of the books on my TBR are actually really “romance” books! Not intentional, but my January reading was definitely more love-themed than February is set to be!

A literary fiction novel about a woman whose husband tries to commit suicide and take her and the children with him.
I was buddy reading this with a friend in January but didn’t get very far into it, so I need to quickly finish it so we can talk about it!
The Elsewhere Express by Samantha Sotto Yambao
Two people meet on a train for the spiritually lost – not the dead, but the living who have lost their way and their purpose.
I pre-ordered this book for when it came out in January but I was in the middle of too many books when it arrived, so I still haven’t started it. I definitely want to get it read and reviewed this month!
A collection of Scots and English poetry about women’s rights, mental health, processing abusive relationships, all while promoting the use of Scots in literature and daily life (a Scottish language related to English).
This was the first book I bought this year and I’ve been reading it ever since – definitely time to wrap it up though!
Two Women Living Together by Kim Hana and Hwang Sunwoo
In South Korea, two women reject both marriage and living alone, redefining what family means. Now in their late 40s, they reflect on society and the comfort of their cohabiting friendship.
I’m buddy reading this with a friend this month (a different friend to Show Me Where It Hurts) and it’s also a new release I’m excited for, so there should be a review coming!
이상한 나라의 스물셋 [The Strange World of 23]
Short stories about the difficult process of growing up and living in the world with other people in your young twenties.
I’ve been reading this for so long and not making progress on it. That being said, I did read two other books in Korean last month, so I can’t blame myself for forgetting about this one too much. This month I hope to finish the story I’m partway through and one more.
Summary
In total, we have five books + 2 short stories on my TBR for this month, including a wide range of genres: 1 sci-fi, 1 literary, 1 fantasy, 1 poetry and 1 memoir! A lot of these are also books that I’ve already started, and actually, as of me posting this, there are only two I haven’t started yet. So I’m hopeful about actually completing my TBR this month!
I also really need to start ploughing through some of the reading for my master’s dissertation, so there may or may not be some books for that cropping up in my wrap up (depending on whether I read anything back-to-back or if I’m just reading a chapter here and there). I haven’t fully determined my dissertation reading plan for February, so that’s why I haven’t included anything in this TBR.
