November TBR

November TBR

November is such a busy month – both in the bookish and real worlds. I have three essays and two presentations to prepare this month (cry), it’s Nonfiction November and Sci-Fi Month, and even novel writing month (although I’ve had to give up on this last one as I really don’t have enough time).

I’m participating as fully as possible in Nonfiction November, so a lot of my TBR this month is nonfiction, but I will also be participating a little bit in Sci-Fi month because I really do love Sci-Fi (specifically space/extraterrestrial sci-fi, not dystopian) and I want some good recommendations too. So there are a couple sci-fi books on this TBR too.

Books to Finish

First I have four nonfiction books that are related to my degree, so I can feel guilt-free reading them during my busy essay-writing period. We’ve got a mixture here – actually about one for every class I’m taking, but they’re all generally related to East Asian history or literature.

Apart from that I’m also going to try and read four nonfiction books that are not related to my degree at all. I’ve picked two that I’m party way through and two that I can listen to as audiobooks on my walk to work and class.

Apart from the nonfiction books on my list, I’ve also got two sci-fi books on there for Sci-Fi month, as well as a new Ilona Andrews book that I’ve been eyeing. Finally, I want to finish The Honjin Murders, which I started reading at the end of last month.

Books to progress

As usual, I have some books that I’m okay with not finishing so long as I make some progress in them. The first two are old hands by now – it feels like I’ve been reading them forever! But the last one is new.

  • 이상한 나라의 스물셋 [The Strange World of 23] – I’m hoping to read two short stories from this collection.
  • 魔幻時刻 [Magical Moments] by Jedit – I’m planning on reading about 60 poems from this book.
  • 불편한 편의점 2 [The Second Chance Convenience Store 2*] by Kim Hoyeon – This is the sequel to a book I read last year(?) and I found it on a Korean audiobook library app thing that I’m trying out, so I’m going to try and listen to as much of it as possible.

*On the off chance anyone speaks Korean – this is not the direct translation, which would be something like ‘Inconvenient Convenience Storm’ or ‘Uncomfortable Convenience Store’, but the first book has been translated and this is the English title.

What books are you planning on reading this month? (Even if it is already halfway through the month.)
