October was pretty busy for me, especially the end of the month when I was submitting midterms and also starting a new job, so I didn’t do a ton of language learning this month, but I still did enough that I want to talk about it!
Japanese

Japanese is probably the language I studied the most this past month, although I still wouldn’t say I studied a lot. I studied three chapters of a couple different textbooks, did a half-decent job of keeping up with my Skritter practice and watched the TV show “After School Doctor”, which is a 10-episode show about a doctor who gets assigned to maternity cover for a school nurse. It was a great show, actually – highly recommend.
Classical Chinese

I studied two lessons of the Introduction to Literary Chinese textbook/course that I’m working through. I’m trying to do 1 per week so it’s a little less than I would’ve liked, but oh well! The end of October was super busy so I won’t be too hard on myself.
Chinese

I didn’t do any dedicated language study for Chinese this month, but I did do a decent amount of practice. I speak a lot of Chinese in my daily life at the moment, and I also watched most of a TV show and read about 10 poems from a book I’m slowly working my way through – they’re definitely not hard poems in the grand scheme of things (it’s more of a book for looking at pretty pictures than anything else), but still. It counts!
Korean

I didn’t do any Korean studying as a student this month, but I did finish the practical element of the Korean teaching training course I’m currently taking, which meant a lot of observing, teaching, discussing language teaching pedagogy (in Korean) and writing lesson observation notes and lesson plans in Korean – surely that has to count for something!
Scottish Gaelic

I took my first ever Gàidhlig class this month, but it was a little hard to follow – I think I need to study some of the pronunciation and spelling rules by myself before continuing with online classes or joining a local in-person class.
I basically didn’t post on my studygram or substack… I should do something about that.
What was your favourite way that you studied a language this month?
If you posted about your language learning at all your month, leave me a link in the comments and I’ll go check it out!
